Good News – by John MacArthur (Hardcover)

Everything the Bible has to say about the gospel is simply an exposition of its central message: Jesus Christ lived and died to save sinners. The gospel is about Him, and it answers Jesus’ key question: “Who do you say that I am?” It is good news.

In Good News: The Gospel of Jesus Christ, Dr. John MacArthur examines the Bible’s revelation of Christ and encourages Christians with the vast implications of all that Christ accomplished for them. This is a book to rekindle love and awe for the Savior.

Review

“Who better to write a book on the gospel than John MacArthur? This master expositor and skilled theologian has spent his entire ministry defining and defending the one, true, saving gospel of Jesus Christ. In these pages, you will discover the biblical basis for the good news of salvation that is in the person and work of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Your heart will be thrilled as you behold the glory of God in the image of Him who is the only Savior of sinners, the Lord of heaven and earth. Here is yet another doctrinally profound yet easily accessible book by this best-selling author. Whatever MacArthur writes, read it for the good of your soul. This book is no exception.”

— Dr. Steven J. Lawson

“In this important book, John MacArthur unpacks the gospel by drawing attention to its heart and essence—Jesus. Nothing is more important for us to know and understand than the gospel. Without this understanding, we are in danger of being eternally lost. You may think you are thoroughly familiar with the gospel, but this book can show you aspects of it that you may have missed. And crucially, these chapters are all about Jesus—who He is, who He claimed to be, what He came to do, and what He accomplished. Whether you are reading MacArthur for the first time or the hundredth, you will not be disappointed.”

— Dr. Derek W.H. Thomas

“‘Who is Jesus?’ has significant and ultimately permanent consequences. The right answer alone can lead to salvation” (3). And so MacArthur goes on to assert the fundamentals of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

His blunt assessment of the evangelical church is clear. He speaks of the very real and present dangers of false religion, natural religion and the tendency to change the gospel to match our wishes. MacArthur lifts up Christ the Messiah as the One whose holiness, righteousness, headship and exclusive redeeming work brings about “radical transformation and reorientation of your entire being” (89). A refreshing and challenging read. — Janice Van Eck
